Meet the Ballet

«Meet the Ballet», 29 April 2026

With Ballett Zürich, Ballet Director Cathy Marston and General Music Director Gianandrea Noseda bring one of the world’s most famous love stories to the stage this May: Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare’s timeless drama meets the powerful music of Sergei Prokofiev, whose rich colours and dramatic force Gianandrea Noseda—an acknowledged expert in this repertoire—brings vividly to life with the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House.

Cathy Marston has long been fascinated by Shakespeare’s work: its vivid imagery, its unmistakable poetry and its finely drawn characters. For her as a choreographer, the story of Romeo and Juliet, with its wealth of both external and internal dramatic possibilities, is as much an inspiration as it is a challenge. Within the most confined of spaces, the full spectrum of human emotion unfolds: tender longing, deepest despair, revenge and irreconcilable hatred. Precisely for this reason, it promises to be particularly exciting to see how she approaches this material with the ballet company and reinterprets it anew.

We would like to warmly invite you to an exclusive rehearsal insight at “Meet the Ballet” on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. Experience first-hand how Cathy Marston works with the dancers on individual scenes of the new choreography.
